Tis the season for holiday baking...and you don't want to forget the pugs in your family! This a great and healthy treat your dogs will love!
This recipe is based upon Ayoka’s from her rottendogblog, but I’ve modified it a bit.
Tender Tuna Treats by Ayoka Bubar, CPDT-KA
Ingredients: 2 cans of canned tuna in water (One can substitute just about anything for tuna)
2 Eggs
1.5 cups Tapioca Flour/tapioca flour starch
I have used unsweetened applesauce, canned pure pumpkin, canned sardines, tripe, liver, etc as the main “protein” source in this recipe depending on the dog’s preferences and/or dietary requirements.
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350
In a blender or food processor, puree tuna and eggs until smooth
Add tapioca flour. You can use any flour, but the tapioca flour (sometimes called tapioca flour starch) gives it the texture I like. Puree again
Line a cookie tray with parchment paper and pour batter onto it, smoothing it to the edges
Bake for 35 minutes depending on oven
Remove from oven, flip the baked treats over and let cool
Cut into strips and let air dry for several hours
Cut strips into whatever size you wish. I keep some out for treating and freeze the rest.
If you want a firmer treat, add another ½ cup of flour to the mix. If I’m using sardines in a tin I use three or four. One can of Tripette works for a batch. With applesauce, pumpkin, etc, I “eyeball” amounts
Step 1: Pour mixture on to parchment lined cookie sheet
Step 2: Spread mixture evenly across cookie sheet and bake
Step 3: Cut into portions after it has cooled.
Step 4: Feed to your pug!
