FOSTER UPDATE - OCTOBER 22, 2024
Penny is doing great. She's amazingly spry for a 14.5 year old and we're continuing to help keep her cough under control with medication. She still loves long walks and sometimes will take a break in the stroller then back to walking again. Being half pug, the food motivation is strong in her and when she's ready to eat she'll bark non stop until her dish is filled! We love her so much and she's brought much joy to our home.
FOSTER UPDATE - JUNE 25, 2024
Penny has fit right in with the resident senior pugs as though she's been here all along.
She loves her huge backyard and sometimes just sits in the middle of it looking around, and we're sure she's thinking "I can't believe this is all mine". She's made friends with neighbours and squirrels.
We keep her as relaxed as possible to help with her cough, which helps quite a bit. Otherwise, she has an incredible amount of energy for a 14-year-old. We couldn't be more happy to have her share her golden years with us.
FOSTER UPDATE - JANUARY 23, 2024
Beautiful Penelope is settling in very well. Probably used to a very quiet home, she is now really enjoying all the activity in her foster home. She’s eating very well and gets foster mom up at the crack of dawn, barking for breakfast! She did sleep in the big bed one night but seems more comfortable on the floor so her bed is beside foster mom’s. Penelope is taken out into the yard to potty regularly but does do her business on pee pads in the house. Unfortunately she also pees on floor mats so they have had to be lifted.
Penelope was diagnosed many years ago with a low-grade heart murmur and sore back legs. Over the last couple of years the diagnosis was updated to include cardiorespiratory illness, specifically cardiomegaly, and dynamic tracheal and bronchial collapse. She also has degenerative joint disease in her shoulder and legs. Foster mom reports that she does have quite a cough but it doesn’t seem to bother her. She has severe tartar and some gingivitis but we will await the vet’s decision on the viability of surgery before proceeding. Her initial appointment is on February 12th
In the meantime, she’s enjoying life and the foster family is enjoying her company. She’s a spunky old gal!
INTRODUCTION - JANUARY 13, 2024
Meet lovely Penelope, a 13 year old spayed female pug-chihuahua cross who came into rescue after the passing of her long-time human. The Pugalug team is very grateful to the former owner’s friends who alerted us to her need and looked after her while awaiting intake.
Despite chronic cardiorespiratory disease and arthritic joints, Penelope seems to be a cheerful wee soul who was happy to give kisses when meeting her transporter today. We will provide more information once she has settled in to her foster home.
