Anyone read this?  I just finished it--Author is Garth Stein.  A sobber, but a good story and an interesting perspective on life from the point of view of an elderly dog.

i didn't like it at all.  While i thought it was told very well from the perspective of the dog, i found the racing stuff repetitive and boring and the elderly dog on his last legs made me cry.  While i normally endorse books that make me cry, i gave this one a thumbs down.

Without giving too much away....it is about Enzo's whole life.....and if you get past the first chapter, it starts at the begnning when he is a puppy.

The racing info mirrors the story and is written as a methaphor.  Enzo "reflects on all he has learned about the human condition and how life, like racing is about so much more than simply going fast".

In 2011, a "kids version" was published and so I think I may have to pick this one up as well.  Although it is recommended for 8-12yr olds, I agree with this review that it should be for the 7th grade and above.
