I am a huge Ariana Franklin fan too.  Mistress of the Art of Death is a fabulous series.  Have you read Labyrinth or Sephulchre by Kate Mosse, Blanche?  You'd probably like them.

I too have a Kindle (a fabulous present from Hubby) and I am a total ebook addict now.  I was worried about the eye strain thing too Blanche but I haven't found it a problem at all.  And what I love is NO hand strain from reading heavy books for hours.  And I love that I can pop it in my bag and have an entire bookcase worth of books with me anywhere.  The downside is I find myself buying more books that I might not otherwise - because they are cheaper and all I have to do is push a button.  Not good for a book addict like me!!

For you fantasy lovers check out Cassandra Clare.  She has two series - The Mortal Instrument series and The Infernal Devices series.  Both great, if you like the Hunger Games series you'll likely enjoy these.
Jeez--both of those sound familiar--so I wonder if I've read them or started them.  Age is a terrible thing--can't remember what I have and haven't read.

Anna--if you haven't read the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series, you should.  You'd like it I think.

Good to know about your experience with the eReader, Anna.  I'm a bit of a techno phobe, but having a more portable "book" would also be spiffy.  And I'm a serious reading addict.

Did a quick Googling.  I did read the first three books of Mortal Instruments--but haven't read the next three nor the Infernal Instruments series.

Blanche, the kindles are so easy to use that it almost doesn't even feel like it's a gadget.  Takes about 5 minutes to get the hang of it and you're done.  You can buy books directly from it and they automatically download .. you can also buy books from the amazon site in a web browser on your computer and they will still automatically download onto the kindle (you just need to connect to any wifi or buy the one that has 3G access built into it).

I just picked up one of these add-on lights last week and loving it, I get 15+ hours out of it before having to charge it (which is just a USB cable plugged into a wall wart or a computer).

Naw, it's great!  You can go back and read the same stuff over and over again, just have to leave a little time in between them.  Carolyn was saying something about that the other day ... that once your memory starts going it's great, because every day is a whole new adventure, even if it's exactly what you did the day before!
