Juni was spayed today and the vet thinks she has some sort of uterine cancer.  Everything has been sent off for histopathology, but if you could spare a thought for this little girl, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks folks./  I'm still researching and trying to figure out how big a deal uterine cancer is in dogs.  Much seems to depend on how extensive and whether it's metastasized or not.  And if the vet got everything at the spay.

So I'm guessing if it is cancer then I probably have another permanent dog.......

Did the vet have any idea of how old she is, Blanche?

I don't know, Shannon.  I wasn't there--the head of the all breed rescue took her in and picked her up.  But uterine cancers generally strike middle aged to older bitches so I'm guessing she is 6/7/8 or older although she didn't have a single extraction during the dental--which is really unusual for a small (pom/chi especially) older dog.

The most maddening thing about this?  If she'd been spayed as a younger girl, we wouldn't even have to think about uterine cancer...
