I noticed that Champion Pet Foods have a new line named Acana.  I know that Orijen is a favourite of some and was curious if anyone encountered this new line?

Acana has been around for a while now.  It is made by Champion pet foods and is a pretty decent line of food.  More moderate in protein (40-60% depending on the type) and there are a large number of flavours.  They are also a little lower in price than Orijen.  Not all formulas are grain free though in this line so you have to read labels.  The grain-free ones in the Acana line are Grasslands (lamb, duck, walleye, egg), Ranchlands (bison, beef, lamb), Pacifica (three fish), and Wild Prairie (chicken, turkey, duck I think).  They also have an Adult, various puppy formulas, Light & Fit, and a Lamb & Apple formula.  It's available at Global Pet Foods.

Thus ends the champion foods ad for the evening.  Can you tell I work at a Global?

Yep--I think it's a pretty decent food.  A couple of our foster folks use it and like it.

Aaah, my local Global just recently brought it in.  We're so behind out here, heh.

Amir didn't seem overly thrilled with the Orijen sample I tried some time ago.  He's currently on small breed Now but I thought I might try something new as he appears a little bored with it currently.  He's very picky on kibble size so that seems to limit what he eats.  I tricked him with the Now because he thinks it's cat food, heh.

Now is a nice brand, I'm a fan of it.  The company, Petcurean, tries to have a small carbon footprint - using alternative fuel vehicles and attempting to develop recyclable/biodegradable kibble bags, and they also source from local farmers wherever possible which is nice.  They also use a low temperature extrusion process on the kibble to preserve the nutrition.

The Acana kibble size seems to be fairly on par with the Orijen ones.  And I've found that many customers whose dogs didn't like Orijen do like Acana because it isn't quite as rich.  The big sellers are the Wild Prairie and Grasslands.

Another line to look at is Solid Gold.  Their grain free Barking At The Moon has been a popular pug owner choice for quite awhile and it's a holistic company that you can get behind.  They are against the use of Genetically Modified grains and they don't support Factory Farming.  They think that the animals we feed to our pets shouldn't have to suffer for them, which I like.

I've been using Acana Pacifica for canines, felines and fosters for quite a while.  It ended the canine itchies and EVERYBODY loves it.
