Tico had emergency surgery last night and is recovering at the Mississauga-Oakville VEC. He ate a wood chip and it became lodged in his small intenstines. We were told it did a lot of damage on the way down. The doctor called to say they were going to increase his medication because his intestines aren't flowing properly again yet. She said that is not unusual, but we are still very worried about him. Tico has had an obsession with eating things since he was a puppy and it has always been a real problem for us.
Our other pug Petra has separation anxiety when separated from Tico. She searched the house for him this morning and got very upset when she couldn't find him. She's been running to the front door at every noise since.

I'm so sorry to hear about Tico. Our healing thoughts are going out to him. It is very hard when you have a pup who wants to eat everything, its difficult to watch them all the time.

So sorry to hear this about Tico. I've had a couple of pica dogs (dogs that eat anything and everything) and it makes for a nervous dog owner.
We will keep our fingers crossed for Tico.

Suzanne, I am so sorry to hear about Tico's injury and surgery. I hope Tico improves quickly. Some dogs just eat everything and it's impossible to prevent. Petra will look after him, when he comes home. Keep us posted on his progress.

Thanks everyone. We were able to pick Tico up a few hours ago and bring him home. He's going to have to take it easy for a while. Petra is happy to have him back too. She's been running all around the house with excitement, but approaching him cautiously.
He hasn't learned his lesson though. The first thing he did when we walked out the clinic door was try to eat a leaf off the ground.

Just saw that he's home! That is good news. My Salvador would eat sticks and plants. I had to watch him closely, but he still got stuff. I'm glad that he will be alright and that he's back with Petra.
