so now that we have the food pretty much down pat, sigh........ Roll Eyes  finally!!

I am working on the sleeping arrangements.
We have tried many things but I am hoping this will contain the little
wiggler AND wiggle he does!
Pugsley is really a very active old man for someone going on 19  Sad   Roll Eyes  sheesh!

So this is what it looks like on my night shifts:
I put 2 boards against my bed (cause a pugs sure knows how to get stuck under the bed), then their 2 mats,
then another board where Pugsley is sleeping, then Abi and her crate, a basket to stop the strong arm of Pugsley pushing the crate and rolling out of bed. Elaborate did you say! YES!! I cannot stress how much Pugsley is still very active. He may not be able to stand on his own but this boy gets around by flopping here, there and everywhere  Roll Eyes  I have found him in places where the other two don't even venture LOL!

Poor Abi   Sad if you didn't er uhm piss on my bed...........................    Roll Eyes
or bug the crap outta the old guy Wink

Awwww, so happy to hear he's doing well!  Smiley Smiley Smiley  I haven't tried the Melatonin on my guys yet but Ringo is driving me around the bend lately by tearing apart any Christmas present he can sink his teeth into - not when I am home, and not when I am at work, but ONLY if I dare to go out in the evening when he expects me to stay home with him.   Roll Eyes

LOL!  yep, Lisa ....
that boy has been training you well hehehe!

There is also the EZ Rest,
I think it is working on Pugsley,
since starting it, he has seemed calmer although
Pugsley still goes bezerk if he knows I'm not around.
I still think it is a comfort/reassurance issue there!

The make shift "box" I tried last nite did not work.......sigh!
So tonite I had to resort to the crate that Abi is using Sad
Pugsley since being with us, has hated hated being crated or
in any cage! Near broke my heart this aft when I tried it to see
what would happen Sad   cry
BUT short of worrying myself sick at work or anywhere else when I'm not home,
I had to resort to this!

So when I gohome we shall see what state he is in Sad
It's a small crate and there isn't much room for him to bounce around in.
Which is either good or bad at this point!

For Ringo, you might have to resort to keeping the pugs in just one room.
A room that they cannot damage anything in ?!?!??!

I've had really good results with human baby playpens.  More open than a crate, and designed with no places to get stuck.

 Grin

Cheap as chips, too.  most second hand stores have a least a couple:  and the newer ones fold into a duffle bag for travel purposes.

The playpen idea sounds intriguing for Lori.....as for my guys, I wish such a room existed in my house.  However my house is so cluttered, there really isn't one that I could use except the kitchen, and that is open concept so I have yet to find baby gates wide enough.  My solution - remove all presents from under the tree and put them up high until Christmas morning.  :p

Lori - how did it go with the crate??  Was Pugs pissed off when you got home or did he handle it ok?

Hey ladies,
sorry had a few days off (if you can caal them off days)

anyhooooo,
here goes Sad
it did not work! he found a way to get around the board!!!!!
Soooooo! I had to do a rescue yet again that night Sad

I have however found out why all the screaming!!
Because of the flailing on the floor, he has scraped himself pretty good on key areas.
ie left hip, left elbow, chin and left side paw paw.
So here  I thought all was healing up fairly nicely and 2 days ago or so,
I look at the hip area and see it has scabbed over nicely, but still Pugsley
keeps curling around and putting his chin on it Sad  So I was fairly sure he might have
bruised it a bit and was keeping him off that side, as much is humanly possible with
an ol' geazer with get up and go!!
WELL......... that same evening, I look again and (eeeewww ick) the scab had lifted
and was hanging on by a hair. I pulled it off thinking there was some nicely healed
flesh underneath and ( eeeeewwwww ick)  Shocked   there was this "CRATER"   cry

So does everyone remember my posting on "First Aid" kits??? (YA GOTTA have one, can't say it enough) Wink
LOL! well out comes my huge tool box kit and all the paraphenalia!!
Poor Pugsley went through a "clipping" and  all fur was removed from the affected area,
it was cleaned with peroxide and then iodine tincture was put on and then gauze and polysporin
to pack the 1/4 x 1/4 crater Sad with a bandage taped over top.
Then because I was second guessing myself on the packing procedure?? (it's been almost 20 yrs since I had to pack an abscess) I spoke to my pharmacist who approved the method I was using! Whew!
So today the "crater" is now a small less than 1/4' wide maybe half as deep abscess and it is healing well!
As for Pugsley most of the screaming and squirming is now down to a low roar!

I felt so bad  cry cry that it was there and I never knew till the scab came off! Such a bad mommy!

I also went and made a new bed for him. Costco had a twin memory foam 1" topper and pillow kit for 39.99
I picked it up in the summer and had no time to work on it BUT I did up the pee cover and topper on Wed.
Doubled the bed down to a square 2" thick and it was an instant hit! So much so, I had a good long sleep the first night, sigh,
one night better than none LOL!
I put the new bed and the old one together in the bedroom today and am hoping he stays on it.
The upside, since he slept on this new bed the ol' guy is actually trying to stand up these days and has done so on several occasions but alas his poor old hips can't hold him up Sad

Pugsley is doing extremely well on his new food. He is up to 3 - 4 large meals (about 1.5 cups of mash each time) and dumpers are back to normal size for him Smiley Smiley Smiley

So in some instances, we are indeed making progress!

I am looking at the baby gate idea, but it has been so crazy right now that may not be until after Christmas.
and LOL! thank you for reminding me of the "gently" used stores out there Wink
I am not up on baby paraphenalia BUT I am an expert on "butternut squash" and "rice pablum"  LOL!

Hey Lori, have only just read about your Pugsley, I hope you guys are resting up these few days.  My very best thoughts and wishes to you and your wonderful family.
(A friend gives her pup L-tryptophan, is very effective for him.
Also, I tape down our floor mats with the green painting tape, all the way around  Smiley otherwise Roscoe drags them around with him!)
Many blessings to you for 2012.
