OK so I was just wondering if this happens to any of your other pugs.

My 13 year old Pugsley will eat ANYTHING.  Anything and everything.  My 6 year old pug whom most of you guys know as well, LadyBug, has recently become more picky with her food.

She's been on Wellness Core (Reduced Fat) and Fromm (Duck & Sweet Potato).  Initially, she refused the Wellness Core so hence why I switched her to Fromm.  The Fromm bag was finished a week ago when she was boarding, and I had packed the rest of the remaining bag of Wellness Core and the people at the doggy boarding facility said she really didn't want to have anything to do with that food but eventually ate it when nothing else was offered.

Lady used to wolf down EVERYTHING.  We did bloodwork and a full PE on her 4 weeks ago and everything came back normal.  She did have a dentistry 3 weeks ago prior to her boarding and was put on a few days of canned food (in which she scarfed everything down).  She still takes smelly liver treats and other smelly treats willingly and begs for human food but she no longer likes certain human foods (ie: zucchinis, strawberries, etc.) and kibbles.

Anyone ever had a picky pug?  or a pug that turned picky?

I think like us they can get bored with the same food and maybe she liked the Fromm better and is now saying Ick to the Wellness Core.  When I feed kibble I generally add some canned Wellness to it anyway just to give some taste variety.

Wellness makes a bunch of good no grain canned foods.

We always add a bit of Wellness meat topper to Bugsy's kibble.

There may not be as many grain free choices of Wellness canned as you think blanche, on careful reading of the ingredients most of them contain barley :/  I'll have to spend some more time reading more of the cans at the local pet food store but from the half dozen I checked on they all had barley in them (not the meat topper I was talking about -- but that's not real full-on food, just an add in for kibble mostly).

Yeah--I realized that after you highlighted it earlier.  At least barley is somewhat benign as grains go, but it is frustrating.

Some of the "chunks and Gravy" recipes are grain free, but not all of them.  Only the Core canned is grain free.

Merrick has some good grain free options.  Darwin was a big fan after his dental surgery Cheesy

Rocky became so picky he would only eat canned.  He's been good on a variety of canned (grain and chicken free) for the past couple of months without turning up his nose.

Picky little rats!

Mackie is my picky little rat and it's an on-going challenge to keep him interested in eating  Tongue  We often say to him what kind of dog are you, what kind of dog doesn't want to eat?

My dogs love Taste of the Wild Pacific canned food, I mix it in with the same type of kibble for dinner.

For breakfast I make my own dog food mash: sweet potato, red lentils, carrot, blueberries... anything that I have in the fridge! Boil them together, leave the water in and mash it up. They wolf it down like there's no tomorrow. My husband says the dogs eat better than the rest of the family, lol!
