Hi everyone,
Wanted to get a few recommendations from the "pug pros" out there for the best types of raw bones to give pugs. My guy currently snacks on small marrow bones and loves them, but I'm not sure if they are safe for his teeth. Even if they are OK, do you have any other recommendations? I'd like to know what to ask for when I go to my butcher.
He already eats pre-prepared raw food; this is just for a treat - to keep him busy and clean his teeth.

Thanks!

I'm careful about chicken and rabbit bones, only because some of them are small enough to get swallowed and a dog can choke, but mine get all kinds of bones.  Beef, elk, pork, venison.  I do tend to remove most of the marrow from the marrow bones as it's too rich for my crew.

The latest thing I do is get bone-in beef from the Chinese supermarket (Fu Yao) at Birchmount and Danforth.  I get them to cut the hunk of beef into 1/2 - 3/4 inch slices so there's a large bone in the middle of each slice with some marrow in most slices.  I cut the beef off and feed it cubed for dinner and give the bone part for recreational chewing.  Molly my foster, was pegged at 7 years old by the shelter a month ago.  Because of these bones, all the tartar is gone and my vet revised her age downwards to no more than 5 years.  I think, but am not sure, that this might be a cheaper way to buy bones too when you factor out the meat.

Chicken backs were popular here.

What cut of bones and how often?  I've been noticing some slightly stinky mouths around here....

Thanks to you all for the suggestions! (If I had had him from puppy-hood, I'd feel more confident about feeding bones because I would have been doing it all along, but I'm being more cautious because he's not used to them and his teeth aren't in the greatest shape.)

Cheers!
