I finally made the decision to euthanize my 19 year old cat, Puppy on Friday. It was a long and hard decision but his quality of life had dwindled and it was time to let him go. Hubby called the vet Friday morning and Dr Mills was able to come out within the hour. It gave me time to brush him, say goodbye, feed Pup his fave wet food and just before the vet got there, the sun broke through the clouds and i was able to move Pup and his bed into the sun. The vet found muscle on his wee frame to inject the sedative and he was limp in seconds. I was worried that his weight had dropped so much the vet wouldn't be able to find a vein but everything went smoothly. Puppy died very peacefully, with me petting him the whole time. I said goodbye, Dr Mills then kissed Puppy on the head and he was gone after 19 years. Love you, buddy.

You had a good long life, Puppy. Run free and look for Lily and Rosie. Shannon, I know how hard it is to make the decision. You gave Puppy the greatest gift of all. A candle is lit for Puppy.

Thanks, all. I feel sad but better now that the decision is made and Pup isn't in pain anymore. And you're right Hilary- Puppy was my lifelong friend. I got him in my first apartment just before my 20th birthday- he was with me my entire adult life. Through dozens of apartments and houses, various cities, different jobs, univeristies, a marriage, a divorce, a re-marriage and s-kids (whom Puppy loathed!) and through everything, there was my orange and white boy. He was a great cat and a great friend and i'll always miss him. While my life seems emptier without him, my life was so much better for having been owned by him for 19 years.

So very sorry, Shannon!
Its a terrible decision that, we as care providers to our furry friends, must make! But it ultimately is with their welfare in mind.
Sonny sounds, much like Pugsley, a very close and compassionate friend through many yrs of ups and downs!
Run free Sonny! You can now watch over Mom from above, pain free! A candle is lit in London!
