Please keep Winnie in your thoughts tomorrow. She is on her way to being six years old and her first dental is tomorrow morning. She has very sweet front bottom teeth like Pippin so that when she smiles you can see them. A couple of them are loose so it's looking like she might lose them. She lost a top tooth a couple of months ago so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow. Although Pug dentals are common practice her Mom is feeling quite jittery. Would appreciate any advice for taking care of little Winnie after her dental tomorrow.

I always worry, when they go under. Good thoughts are being sent for Miss Winnie. Mookie lost some of his cute little front toofies. They do get loose and it is hard to keep them good, even with brushing.

It's hard NOT to worry, but she'll likely be fine.  The hardest part for my guys is always the "going without breakfast".  there is always much indignant and outraged screaming by the dogs when this happens.

She will likely lose some of those front teeth.  Pugs mouths just have trouble hanging onto them.

Good luck, sweetie pie.  Hope your Mommy will post later in the day when you're all done and have shiny teeth.

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts.

Well our Miss Winnie is home, a little groggy, but home resting minus four teeth. Two of her little bottom teeth were removed and two "premolars". The vet said that because there was such crowding he took the two "premolars" as well. Apparently she has moderate gingivitis. Miss Winnie will have to succumb to brushing whether she fancies it or not. When will it be safe to start brushing? And what can I do to clear the gingivitis? We floss, but what do we do for our Pugs?

It's been a long day waiting but worth it to see Winnie's sweet little face with her tongue popped out. Sasha was glad to see her too! There's pureed chicken and veggies in the fridge waiting for the first hint of an appetite.

Thanks again to everyone for your support.

Great to hear she's recovering well!  Raw marrow bones are the best thing for tartar and gingivitis, but their use is very controversial.

Miss Winnie had a restless night but seems better this morning. Glad I took today off as a vacation day to be at home with her since her restless night was mine too. She has just had her pureed feast a few minutes ago. Miss Winnie is not a morning Pug and doesn't like to eat right away when she gets up for the day. Unlike her sister Sasha who nudges me every morning to get up any time after 5 am because she is looking for her first meal of the day as soon as possible.

Looking at preventing Winnie's teeth and gums from deteriorating further. Thanks Hilary for the suggestion. Winnie ansd Sasha do have raw marrow bones as treats but maybe they need to be having them more often. Winnie chews real bones, nylabones and I also buy them dental sticks to chew. I had also been adding PlaqueOff by ProDen to Winnie's food but not sure that it made any difference.

Wondering about feeding raw as well, have been thinking about it for sometime now. Just not sure that I can fit one more thing to do into my life just now. The selections for buying pre made raw food seem to be somewhat limited in this area. Open to any suggestions that anyone thinks would help to support the Pugs' dental health.
