You will need fabric, velcro and a sewing machine. I've used old sheets, old pillow cases, old kitchen towels--not not terry cloth as it's too hard to work with and too heavy.
Cut a strip of fabric to measure 24 inches in length. The width should be about 10 or 12 inches.
Fold your long strip in half lengthwise, with the print sides of the fabric facing each other. The band should be about 5 to 6 inches wide, which is average for a pugsized dog. You can make your smaller or larger depending on the size of the dog.
Sew the sides together, leaving one end open. Turn fabric inside out. Sew bottom edges.
Sew the velcro strips onto the ends of the sewn strip. I use three strips spaced about an inch part so that I can use the belly band on different sized pugs. You can either sew the velcro strips horizontally or vertically. I've done both
Finished product should be about 20 to 22 inches long and 3 to 5 inches wide

And if any of you sew-ers have Mondo pugs like Chewie or shrimps like Leila--we can always use a few in the XL and XS sizes!

I have a sewing machine that I can actually operate (i.e. I can thread the machine, I know how to wind a bobbin and I know how to change the needle) and I have the willingness to try but I'm seriously lacking in the know how and skills departments when it comes to handling the fabric

It's pretty forgiving. And old pillow cases are really easy to use for this purpose.

if I can come up with some fabric, I will try to help out! Can the edges just be serged to gether in one fell swoop and the velcro sewn on?? I can knock off quite a few if that were the case.

As long as it`s sturdy enough to hold up to multiple washings and the velcro attached tightly enough to not pull off when the belly band is pulled off.

Oh I'm sure it will last through many washings Just cuts down on turning it out. Sergers are super for this type of thing. I just wasn't sure if you wanted that finished edge or if it mattered? It can still be pretty fashionable with different coloured threads etc.

If the serger can make it so that it doesn't unravel and trail threads, I'm good.

My mom has and industrial sewing machine and serger for her re-apolstery business and general grandkid sewing. I'll see if she can whip off a batch for you.

Thanks Anna. I usually make a bunch every year (usually inspired by an incoming marker) and then I lend them out and when I need one can't find one. And the cycle begins all over again......
