Last Thursday Amir went for his annual wellness exam and vaccines.  His bloods came back fine even though they said his lipids were elevated.  One thing the vet was concerned about, though, was a cough he's had for a little while.  While he's sounded slightly congested (imagine, a pug sounding like that!), the only time he really coughed was when I'd lift him up or off the bed (or in this case, the exam table).  As neither the vet nor the student could get a good listen to his breathing thanks to the excessive excited idling, they decided to give him Interceptor in the event he had lungworm.  Sure enough, a week later and he still has the odd cough.  I called the college today and spoke to the student.  Mr. Man gets to go for chest x-rays on April 14th.  I believe the word we're looking for is "yay!"

Sending positive thoughts for Amir.  I hope his cough disappears before his chest xray.

Thanks folks!  I think I make it sound worse than it is, heh.  Yesterday was the first time he coughed since Thursday.  With the bit of congestion, I think it may be allergies or something and nothing serious.  The neighbours love their heat which sadly affects the heat in my apt as well.  Even the vet thought this could be a cause.  Since it's been rather nice the last week, he's been out more and the windows have been open.  I'm guessing dust from the rads, heh.

Hi Jemma,

I hope the old guy is feeling better very soon.  Apartment heat can be so troublesome for our pets and hoomans!  As a result of apartment allergies I now have permanent custody of Belle the pussycat and semi-permanent vacation custody of Buttercup, both my daughter's cats.  I know that you can never have enough vapourizers, and one in each room is suggested.  Plus, the warm air type works better.  Also, I am wondering if an air purifier would help.  They can be expensive but they seem to go on sale regularly at Canadian Tire.  Is your apt. air conditioned in the summer?

I admit, I never thought of a vaporizer, heh.  I have given thought to picking up an air purifier though.  I'll have to keep an eye on the Canadian Tire flyer Wink  As for the air conditioner, Amir was given one two summers ago.  I think a second will be bought for the bedroom this year though.  I love the looks I get from people when I tell them the a/c was bought purely for the pug, hehe

And we're off for x-rays today.  As Mr. Man refused to give a sample for a urinalysis when he had his wellness exam, they sent me home with a dish for a free catch and bottle to take it back in.  Originally they wanted to do a cystology but last time they tried, Amir's left eye started to bulge.  Free catch it is!  Anyway, I'm sure the good folk of Charlottetown were wonder what's with the weird woman following her pug with a green kidney shaped dish.  The things we do for our pets!

If you were in Toronto, Blanche could come over with her soup ladle and I'd bring my baggies so it would be three 'weird' women instead.

Good luck today Amir!  My husband is the urine collector in the family.  My guys seem to freeze up when I try to collect the sample from them.  Maybe it's a guy thing  Undecided

And we're back!  Amir, thankfully, doesn't have congestive heart failure or cancer (which I was worried about) but possible heartworm or chronic bronchitis.  The x-ray showed that his pulmonary artery was on the large side so they're doing a blood test.  It also showed that he had a little soft tissue but they said that was common in older dogs.  However, there were also "train tracks" which was explained to be bronchi, hence the possible chronic bronchitis.

We're now waiting on the results of his urinalysis and blood test.  They managed to do cysto with him laying on his side.  His arthritis meds have been switched from Metacam to Deramaxx.  Meanwhile, I find more greys.
