Apologies for starting another raw thread. I thought I would make a new topic specific to the question I am about to ask. Have any of the new raw-converts noticed a decrease in water consumption following the switch? Just asking because Chewy drank A LOT of water when he was eating kibble. I would fill up a water bowl about three times a day. Neither dog drinks much water since switching to raw. Has anyone else noticed this with their dogs?

I was going to ask the exact same question!
Rocky's water intake has dropped significantly since we started raw.
Should I be worried?Huh?

I noticed a decrease in water consumption with my two when we switched to raw.  And now that we do kibble for breakfast and raw for dinner, they definitely drink more after the kibble.  I've been following Blanche's suggestion to soak food in water and that affects the amount they drink.  Also makes for a messy Mookie chin.  Smiley  Poco is much more particular and dainty in her eating.

Absolutely normal, Tanya.  Since kibble is dehydrated, a lot of water is needed to rehydrate it for processing it in the body.  Smart "little" Chewy knows this and has been drinking accordingly.  Now that he is eating raw, the body doesn't need as much water.

HOWEVER, if anyone's dogs are prone to urinary infections and/or crystals/stones, they should be drinking as much water as possible in order to flush the system as well as possible.  So some of us have started adding water to even raw meals.

Nobody has ever called Chewy smart! Ha!

Very glad to hear that what they are (not) doing is normal.
