Our dear little Lucy is in trouble!! On Monday I noticed that she was acting a little odd...just not herself, and seemed to be listing to the left. She was seeing our Vet on Tuesday for bloodwork (for dental surgery she was supposed to be having tomorrow), so we mentioned it, and she checked her ears, and legs, and found nothing wrong. Yesterday her head started leaning to the left, and she had trouble with stairs, and jumping on and off furniture. We took her back to the Vet's this evening, and it looks like she probably has Vestibular although she is rather young for it. We take her to a neurologist at the VEC on Tuesday morning. It's the same one that we saw last month with our cat, Annie, and considering how that worked out, I'm really scared!
Please keep our sweet girl in your prayers!!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I've been reading up on Vestibular on the net, and I'm not sure if it's been helping me or not. It's scaring me more than anything. It's four, long days until we see the neurologist next Tuesday morning, and that's going to be hard. I just want to know that something can be done for her......

Nancy Jean: While you don't want a diagnosis of vestibular, in most cases, dogs do improve over time and generally it doesn't cause them distress.
Most often there isn't anything medically you can do about it unless there is a specific cause for it. If all the possible reasons for the behaviour are ruled out, then a diagnosis of idiopathic vestibular is usually made. There is a little fawn girl named Munchy who comes to Pugalugs from time to time and she has vestibular. She has a slight head tilt, but otherwise does fine.
So don't despair--hard as that is not to do.

Thinking of you and Lucy. We have had a few dogs with vestibular; it is quite possible that our last foster, Wee Ceasar, had it. It can be a bit unnerving if they have an "episode" but, after a good nap, they are usually fine. Nothing to do but keep them calm.

Have the vet rule out fluid/debris in the ear first. Sending positive thoughts.
When we took her to our vet last evening, she checked out her ears...couldn't see anything that could be causing a problem. My biggest fear at the moment is that it is a brain tumor, and having just lost our cat to one a month ago, it really bothers me. She is not presenting with all the symptoms of vestibular, such as loss of appetite, vomiting or falling over or rolling, but I have no idea if that is a good sign or not. She can still walk fairly straight with a slight curve to the left, and can run also. She seems to be moving her head out of the head tilt a little more often today, but again I have no idea whether that is a good sign or not, or if I'm just imagining it. I intend to just keep praying that it isn't a brain tumor that is causing this, and we will see what the neurologist has to say on Tuesday morning.
