Oh poor Darwin. It has been such a tough go with the fur babies for you lately. My best thoughts to Darwin. Maybe the diet will fix this

Is it not possible that if he passed a stone it could cause some bleeding?

Well, I am VERY disappointed in my vet today.  After consulting with Hills (I THOUGHT about a home diet) he is recommending we try z/d ultra!  Despite me saying Darwin is allergic.  And when I brought up my concerns about the fact that Darwin barely drinks any water he brushed them off.  At Hills suggestion Darwin is now on Baytril since he might have an infection that didn't show on the urinalysis.  And there was mention of trying out potassium citrate if needed.  His PH was up to 9 again, from 6 a month ago.  I expressed concern at how fast he is yo-yoing between PHs (struvite to calcium oxalate in less than two months) and that was brushed off too.  So I'm really frustrated and I guess I'll need to figure out an appropriate diet for him myself.  And perhaps find a new vet. Sad

Anna, I feel for you, I know what you are going through. Thank goodness he is on Baytrill a good drug that worked for Sami's 9 month UTI. YES, find a new Vet, I am fed up with the shrugging of shoulders at the rates they charge with little change. You want this fixed now, I know.

I hope you got a least 6 weeks worth of Baytril to make sure any infection is gone.
Buy some greenies PH strips. I got ours at a Nutrition House store, and check the PH of Sami quite often myself still.
It is very hard to get a dog that doesn't drink much to do so, especially in the winter, but walks walks walks, wear him out, make him thirsty, and drown the canned food.

Oh Anna, my heart is with you right now.  I know how hard it is when one of our "fur-babies" is sick.  Sending prayers that Darwin will be better very soon, and have no more troubles!!

And if you are unhappy with your vet then by all means look for a new one.  These are the people that we rely on to help us get our pets better, and we need to trust them.

Sending good thoughts over to all of you!  I learned the hard way that doing your own research is essential too ... had I followed the vet's suggestions for diet I think it would have proved a bad thing for Cooper ... and what I ended up doing after my own research and the help of some others here ended up being the right thing.

Vet's just do not understand nutrition at all in my past experience, or at least none that I've talked to yet!

This is quite a nerve wracking roller coaster of information and sure hope that Darwin and Mom is feeling a lot better soon.  I am sure you just want an answer you can work with.  All the best.
