WOW! did not realize the cheating was that bad! even if you posted on facebook or twitter no way you would come up with that many votes!! Something is very very very wrong here! Perhaps we should bombard Bissell with emails, letters and phone calls??? Just to let them know how upset people are with this process

Well, something that wouldn't exactly be cheating is if we ask for permission from friends or family members to use their e-mails as a vote to count towards the pug of the week. For example, I've asked my dad, mom, and brother if I could use their e-mails to vote everyday 4 times. I know some of you have already been doing that. Not everyone obviously has time to vote everyday but there are enough of us out there such that if we can "help a friend" vote for our pug, it definitely wouldn't be considered cheating. And if we can 2-4 e-mails each (average 3), we could have 100 x 3 votes per day = 300 x 7, so close to 2100 votes as well. Just get "consent" from your friends and family that they will allow for this everyday voting. They don't get a confirmation e-mail every time they do so - so it won't even be a hassle to their inbox. Yes, Adrienne, way to loop around the system - but hey, at least it's legit.

don't worry, if this is bogus and unfair, I will be letting everyone on my facebook know, I wouldn't mind sending them an e-mail. With all the votes we had compared to 2100 is ridiculous, I can't see 2100 being all legitimate.

I don't think they are going to care about how the process is - given how long they've been running this contest for. However, it should be made aware to them that there needs to be a better grasp of the system. Either make it like the contest that Dave had or put tighter security if you are going to use that "you can only vote once" rule. The latter is extremely hard to control. Like my above post, you can totally loop your way around the system "legitimately".

I was doing this for my work, my mom, my husband, and myself everyday, with their permission, so it wasn't cheating. But, 2100 votes! I have over 220 on FB, and I only got about 5 of them to vote. So I don't know where they got 2100.

WHOA, folks. We don't know that there is cheating. There may be, but we don't know it and can't accuse Bissell of running a rigged contest. Nor should we accuse others of cheating.
All I'm saying is that there are alot of accusations flying around on the Facebook comments AND that we can't compete with 2100 votes ourselves. And the contest seems to be somewhat sloppy in it's organization.
Remember, what we say on a forum COULD be read by anyone of a number of people and we need to be careful about making baseless accusations.
Mark has done his research and yes, the system isn't secure.

Well don't take me wrong folks, I'm not saying that 100% for sure people are cheating, just saying that the way things are setup it's possible as it's not really locked down very well. Due to the way they run their verification process a crafty person could take advantage of that fact ... they would just need to setup a bundle of registrations and do some scripting to then take advantage of that bundle of registrations.
I also have to agree with blanche that we shouldn't be pointing fingers at Bissell or any of the other contestants, I'm not making concrete allegations here ... I just wanted to point out that, in my opinion, the contest is not setup very well technically and is not being run very well. Losing contestants, leaving fairly large holes in the registration process, etc.
Also I have to agree with blanche that getting 700+ votes in a week is amazing and if we're not even 1/3 of the way there to compete with the winning range ... it's pretty crazy. Also consider this is a HUGE contest and open to all of north america.

Yes, you are right. I got a little quick with the typing fingers. We are doing well in our community for 700 + votes. That is a great group effort for our community win or lose. Really shows that we are a strong front.

and all I'm saying is maybe Bissell needs to know that the contest set up is sloppy! Feedback is good and maybe then modifications can take place.

I know that Larry has been emailing about his concerns with the missing Odin link and I suspect other folks are likely having the same struggles we are. I'm not shouting at anyone. I just want us to be careful. There's been a very recent incident on another pug forum where a company tracked down comments made about them and have made the lives of several people very miserable as a result. I'm excessively cautious about some things on the internet.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that although we may not be getting a fair shake at the tremendously-needed $10,000, we are still getting a great deal of exposure from our efforts to get our friends (and subsequently their friends) to vote. This is good profile for Pugalug and for rescue in general.

I've also been able to get us exposure on Facebook & Twitter. Our follower base on Twitter has grown by 20 over the past two days and our Tweets are getting re-tweeted which is a huge thing in the social media world. @Pugalugpug (Twitter) Melissa

There have been complaints posted on the Bissell Facebook page. We are not alone. Specifically about last week's winner and the total votes. This is what Bissell posted on Wednesday:
BISSELL Hi Everyone – thank you for letting us know your concerns regarding the vote count of the winners this week. We definitely want this contest to be fair – just like you! We are currently looking into the authenticity of votes for period 2 and will let you know once we have more figured out. Thanks for your patience!
