It's really hard to guess who's mouth is okay and whose won't be.  Lola should have (by all the laws of averages for poms) been toothless by the time she died, but she had most of them.  She didn't have her first dental till she was almost 10 and then didn't have any extractions.  Had a few in her last dental, but still went to her grave with most of her teeth.  And that's really rare.  Most poms are gumming their food at an early age.  The pugs have so-so teeth. Hazel has the best teeth and shouldn't given her early years in the mill with lots of litters and crappy diet.

Rocky is only 3 and even though I do brush his teeth (probably not as often as I should) and he chews EVERYTHING including items that he is not supposed to, he has some tartar on one of his back molars.  I would bet my next paycheck that he will have rotten teeth long before he is ten despite my best efforts (and I do brush his teeth more often now)

Angela-
Unfortunately, pug mouths (and a lot of toy breed mouths) are structured for dental problems.  All you can do is your best--and if your brushing his teeth that's better than 90% of dog owners right there.

I've tried Acana and Orijen and Rocky can't tolerate either (brutal diarrhea).  Any other suggestions on a quality grain and chicken free kibble?  Raw would probably be the best option, but my life right now is so nutsy that I can't fathom it........
My guys get Wellness Core Fish. It has been great for Mocha. He reacted badly to chicken. His coat improved, when he was on it for awhile. It is grain-free. Make sure it is the CORE line.

Maude eats the CORE fish also and really likes it. She gets a tiny amount of the Natural Balance Venison and Sweet Potato wet in the evening. Her ears are quite good on this combination and she scratches less. She HATES the Natural Balance kibble though.
