Here we go again.......

Squinting yesterday, Forest Hill today and she's got another ulcer.  Distichia burned.  Superficial so far ....so back on drops 4X/day......recheck in 1 week.

I went to see a different optho a few months ago on the suggestion of my vet.....very different advice and this could have been prevented.  Huh?  I will drive the 3 hours now ANYTIME to Forest Hill

Damn, Amanda.  Sorry to hear this.  Posie is at Forest Hill today getting her nose fold reduced.

Fingers crossed for Pugsley and your wallet.

Oh poor Pugsley and you. My fingers are also crossed that this is treatable with the drops and resolves itself quickly and easily. It is a shame that Forest Hill is so far from you.

Best wishes for Posie too!

Not yet, but given that it's "only" a nose fold reduction, I'm assuming it will be easy=peasy.

Forest Hill is very careful, with the drops and recovery. Hopefully, you can get improvement with the drops.
Mookie and Mocha, both get Distichia. It is hard to know, since they don't seem to give any signs before the damage is done. I use to get them checked, every few months. Now, they don't seem to get them very often. Every dog can be different, though.
The important thing is to keep the eyes lubricated. We use optimmune and natural tears.

More good wishes for Pugsley to healthy eye recovery. This whole area of Pug eyes is complicated and very specialized, it seems to me. Is there any good reading anyone can suggest about promoting Pug eye health?

All I have are articles on eye problems, but here's my routine.  I never assume a pug's eyes are okay.  EVERY pug in my house (if they have eyes) gets eye lube unless their tear production tests out at higher than 20 (most don't).  I lube all my fosters as well.  And the shih tzu is no better--they are as notorious for eye problems as the pugs and are really bad for prolapses.

I would advise any pug owner to get the Schirmer tear test done.  And probably should get it done a couple of times as the dog ages--decreased tear production is common in older pugs.

Watch for whether or not your pug completely closes their eyes when they sleep--many don't.

Check eyes regularly so that you know when there is a change.

Get your pug used to things being around their eyes so they don't freak out (or freak out quite so much) the first time something happens and then they HAVE to have stuff in and around their eyes.

Memorize the way to the nearest veterinary ophthalmologist.....
