Darwin needs your thoughts tonight. Suddenly this evening he was having trouble peeing and seemed to be in pain. I rushed him to the emergency vet and the news is bad. He has crystals, horrific amounts, and stones. Two stones are stuck in his eurethra (sp?) and so he is having surgery tonight. They are going to try and get the stones flushed back up into his bladder, and then remove them surgically. We are so shocked and upset I don't know what to think. Please send my sweet boy your thoughts, he needs them tonight.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! WOO HOOOOO! The power of the prayers and good thoughts of you pug people are amazing! The vet just called. They got a large catheter into Darwin (without a general anesthetic needed, yay!) and flushed fluid up and intomhis bladder, then took more xrays. No sign of stones! What the previous X-ray had shown as stones was actually a mucous plug and large collection of crystals caused by a major infection and very high PH level (9). So they flushed him clean, he's on pain meds and antibiotics and he gets to come home tomorrow. NO SURGERY!!! Yes!!! Once he's home we take him to our regular vet to get him on a urinary diet and then start on a preventative lifestyle for him. I am so relieved. I can't believe it! My boy is okay!

Just reading your post now. One of the blessings is that there are good people on the Forum with lots of knowledge and experience with crystals, diet etc so Darwin and his family will be well supported. Wonder if this is at all connected to his growling at Isaac when they were playing tug. UTIs certainly change the ways in which people behave, drastically sometimes, so there may have been a link.Winnie and Sasha send their best healing wishes to your sweet Darwin.

Poor Darwin! Hope this all passes quickly
But it occurred to me, Anna, this might explain the growling episode with Isaac. Maybe Darwin wasn't feeling well.
