I live in Ontario in a swampy marsh area. Dogs are commonly around tall grass & forested area, back yard garden which has several old stumps. I think my fawn pug has contracted "chiggers" which my black pug may also now be showing bites from. Both are on "revolution" for heartworm & fleas. Bites don't appear to be overly itchy to them but the fawn pug I can see discoloration in her skin, feel bites, and she seems to be shedding more. Bites seem to be on her sides, legs, and neck. Not noticing them on her belly or ears.
Seems "chiggers" are common in states and no solutions are common.
I have also got bites, extreme itching, and 100% sure it's not fleas. My doctor agrees its bug bites on me but said never seen anything like it? Think there is a correlation between my dogs bites and mine. I've washed all linens in hotwater.
Dogs typically get bathed  1x per month or more.  They also (of course) sleep in my bed & regularly lie on my lap. And my bites are on my arms and lap area.
This is the 2nd spring, summer and fall we are experiencing this since moving to our home 2 years ago. Not a problem in the winter.
Recommendations/thoughts/solutions? Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations before I head to the vets this week?

I grew up in the Southern US and know chiggers well, but I didn't think they came as far north as Canada.  As to the bites, could be just about anything.  There are zillions of bugs that could be nailing you and the dogs.  Odd that it isn't on their bellies, however.  I'd think that would be prime biting territory.  Possibly mosquitos?  The Revolution prevents HW, but I don't think it stops the mosquitos from actually biting the dogs

ETA: Just googled chiggers and yes, they are in Canada.  No clue if they affect dogs however.

Wondering if the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph might be a good source of information. Perhaps they might have a working knowledge of all of the possible pests that inhabit dogs and what the solutions are. Not sure how you contact them but there may be an email for OVC on the University website.

You could try spraying the pugs down with lemon water (equal parts lemon juice and water or full throttle lemon juice) it works on keeping mosquitos at bay and it might work on "chiggers"

I know it works on fleas Wink

I do, in a heavy year of mosquitos, spray the boys down b4 they go out and it
does work, they don't come back in with any bites that drive them crazy!

As long as you can put up with slightly sticky lemony pugs, it might be worth a try at
this point!
