I've been feeling the need for awhile now to adopt... I currently have two fawn males (Teddy 8yrs and Seamus 11yrs) and a fawn female (Scarlett 11yrs). I love the seniors, I fell in love with Seamus' picture immediately and had to have him. It was the best decision ever, even though most people couldn't understand why I wanted an old deaf pug. Seamus has given me so much, he makes me smile everyday and I'm thankful for having him.
With so many pugs waiting for forever homes, how do you choose? It breaks my heart to know that there's some older or sick pugs that no one wants. I would take them all if I could. I've read that fawns seem to have a harder time than blacks at being adopted. What about males vs females?
Thanks for your input, Melissa

I think you have to look at the personalities of your current pugs and that of the one you may have your eye on. When I was fostering Lucy, she and Charlotte were buds as Lucy didn't want to be the alpha bitch. Charlotte and Madison sometimes have 'issues' because each wants to be on the top spot. Right now blacks seem to be popular, but give me a nice 'mature' fawn any day.

I love the fawn boys. Love them. Not to say that I don't like my girls, but they do tend to be more full of it than the boys. And while I like the blacks, the ones I've fostered have all been pretty sassy in one way or another. With my crew, a laid back older male is necessary to keep the bitch fighting to a minimum. Hazel, although eyeless, has no time for any girl wanting to be in charge. But she happily has Tank take that job. Theo is just a happy-go-lucky guy with no aspirations for world domination and Lola....well, we all know about Lola.

I also prefer males. My Nellson has been the most joy. He has never caused a single problem. Boys o with the flow and girls are bossy, pushy and always wanting to be top bitch. My Barnaby Griffon is exactly like Nellson. The girls, Taylor and Faith each tend to be bossy britches. I would gladly have a house full of boys. As for black versus fawn pug..(plugging Taylors ears)...I love the black bitches...so full of themselves...

It's the look in their eyes when they choose me (or hubby!) that counts. Male or female and black or fawn really doesn't matter to me. Their personalities are all so different. What about Loki?

From my limited experience I like the fawn females, especially the ones that are a little nutty (Ada, Geeg, Maude, Hazel) and the ultra sweet ones like Maureen's Lola.

No icky boy-bits during MTR's (Massage & Tummy Rubs). LOL, unless you have former mill girls - both my girls have two rows of very pronounced nipples.

...so does Geeg. She had at least one (very large) litter with the byb that we got her from. We call them her Geeger Boobies. But they aren't yucky like rubbing a boy-dog's belly. Detour left! Detour right! Eeeeuuuuuwwwww!!!!!

I've gotta vote boy. I love my Adadog but she is a tiny, little nutjob and can be pretty bossy and bitchy. Darwin, like every male dog I've had, is a giant suck, such a big baby! I think that while the black males are very high energy pups they mature into little love bugs.

Only have a girl dog. Never had a boy before.
I can't imagine a more attached/sookier dog than our Sammers.
I agree though - the bitches can be quite bossy sometimes.

I would go for the male. I love our Princess Poco, and she's very cuddly, but also bitchy and bossy. Mookie doesn't have any qualities that I don't absolutely love. He's super snuggly, always happy and very easy going.

We have only had females until this point in our lives. I am not sure if it is because he is a pug or not but he is the most loving thing ever. Our girls have always been loving, but he is over the top and funny. It is the same as my 2 leg children, I only wanted girls, thought I never wanted a boy. My 3rd and final child was a boy and if I could I would have loved to have another boy.

I am starting to look for another pug to adopt. My 2 year old fawn, Piper, is what you all are calling a 'bossy bitch' :p , and she's hyper at times too. She loves to play with toys, humans, other dogs, unsuspecting cats, etc. So I'm keeping my eye out for a pug that would be compatible. I did put an app in for Kimba but seems I was too late. I don't really have a preference for girls/boys, although I've only ever had female dogs. The 'detour left, detour right' post had me LOL.
