While I'm thrilled that Tucker is getting so many applications, it breaks my heart that the fawn pugs tend not to get any interest.  Sanford got snapped up and had a range of applications to choose from.  Loki--hardly any interest.

Conroy only had one or two apps (fortunately his forever home was one of them).  Bellarina only had two apps.  Daisy has only had one.  Makes me worry that little Pippin won't be adopted.

I understand that Loki is older, Daisy has an ongoing health issue, but it does make me feel badly that we can't seem to generate any interest in the fawns.  I'm not disparaging the blacks, by any means, but I am a fawn pug person for the most part and it's sad to see such a lack of interest.

I have to admit I was really surprised that Conroy only got two applications but as you say they were both good and he did find a wonderful forever home. The only thing I can think of with him that may have deterred people, is the fact that he was a mix and will need drops in his eyes for the rest of his life. He is a wonderful puppy and as lots of people saw at Pug Paddy just a gorgeous, friendly boy.

As for Loki and Daisy, you are most likely right about the age and the medical issues scaring people off. Possibly people were afraid Bellarina would not adjust to them? It will be interesting to see how Madison fares in applications. She is quite cute. As for Pippin, he is so sweet and as his issues get under control hopefully he will be appreciated for the nice puppy he is.

It's Loki I'm surprised to still see sitting in rescue, he only had some dental issues, otherwise he seems easy going.

I'm also really surprised that no one is scooping up Loki, he seems super sweet!

Has Loki had any applications yet? Love the new pics that have been updated on his profile.

I have noticed that adoptions seem to be down across the board, no matter what you are rescuing.

All breed rescues and breed specific rescues (of the non pug variety) it seems are all seeing a drop in applications and adoptions.

The reason?
I have no idea.

But I do think that when all the stuff happened in the states a lot of rescues were quick to snatch up dogs form across the boarder and adopt them out here (pugalug not included), you are not seeing as much of that lately as they are having trouble adopting out local strays.

But I can remember last year and the year before the dogs were flying out the door, now it seems they are sitting for much longer with little interest.

I also notice that there are a lot more small breeds in rescues/shelters then there used to be, lots of small dogs for people to pick through when looking to adopt, it just makes it that much more difficult.

No question, Sarah.  Adoptions are down across the board.  I thought we'd get flooded for apps for Kimba, but we didn't.  We got some, but way fewer than I was expecting.

We've never taken many dogs from the US and we haven't taken any in the last number of years.  We barely keep up with Ontario pug needs.  And to be honest, I've never understood Canadian rescues taking US dogs when there are so many here in need.  Just never made much sense to me.

In the early years when we had more foster homes than dogs, we took some of the US dogs in a cooperative relationship with a Kansas rescue and a Michigan rescue, but since we are now pretty much always full, we don't do that any longer.

As to why?  I'm not entirely sure either.  I think that the economy may be on the upswing, but I'm not sure that's translated into jobs very much.  I know several of us (foster folks) lost our jobs during the downturn and still haven't found full time permanent employment.  And maybe the "pug" fad is over.  That could be both good and bad.  I do know that shelters are seeing an increasing number of "designer dogs" as the reality of that myth starts to come to light.

I think that people are just more cautious about taking on a dog, generally, and sadly, I think that rescues have made dumping a dog easier for people.  I don't have a solution for that one, but I do think it's true.

Every day I look at Loki and feel sad for him.  I know personally Blanche your little saying on the bottom of your posts rings true for us,  If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet.  With myself out of work for now and the possibility of returning to school, my husband is (choking) right.  I have to admit my initial thoughts of adopting an older pug were worry they are not going to be around long.  After reading all the posts regarding seniors I think it would be less selfish to give them a loving home for the remainder of their lives and know they lived out their lives with love.  I direct everyone who meets Sully and talks about getting a pug to the rescue, and specifically mention Loki and the others looking for a forever home.
