That's like Jemmers. The Geeg gets 3/4 to a cup a day and Jemmers gets a cup and 1/2 + per day and all the carrots he can eat and he still looks like a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Cannot put weight on that boy to save my life. We did very well over the winter with running and playing andn chasing toys in the attic (no outside walks for wimpy pugs) and Geeg still has a lovely, shapely waist and good cardio this spring. Both my pugs weigh between 22- 24 lbs even though Jem is taller and skinny and Geeg is shorter and heavier, more typical pug-bod. Thankfully they both LOVE to play!

Jemmie Jemmerson is a stick boy--Pippie is as well. He actually reminds me alot of Jemmie in his build and he has a very similar face.

Both Pugsley and Dave are "tall" and not at all the breed standard! I guess Dave isn't the breed so that makes sense!! Pugsley is about 19lbs and Dave was 21-22 the last time he was checked. Both get 1/3 cup twice a day..... seems to be working out for the beach body physique (whatever that is )

I think they both look good, Amanda. And Dave needed some meat on his bones.

We should get the Geeg and Pip together at a pugalug...see if Geeg lays him the beats...then we'll really know if Pippin is Jem-like. Is Pip totally annoying/totally adorable all at the same time???

Pippin is not annoying, actually. Of all the puppies I've had in foster care, this is the first one I've really wanted to keep. the only other one that I wanted badly was Glory. He has normal puppy energy and takes a hint when told to bugger off by the elders. So Geeg's beats would be unsatisfying as he does learn and usually doesn't commit the infraction a second time. Pippin is remarkably normal.

Thanks Blanche for the chart. I'm glad you mentioned it to me that I had to reduce Melvin's weight. People have to realize who the comment is coming from if they are getting upset by someone calling there pug fat.Blanche you care so much about the pugs and all animals that you want the best for all of them and being too fat is not healthy. I have reduced Melvin and Pinky's diet and we have been going on longer walks. Hopefully the losing weight will work on me too! Thanks

Aw Carol--I don't think any of us who've had pugs for a while haven't struggled with the weight issue. And it is SO easy for it to creep up and for us not to notice.
I was prompted about posting this because of the Pugalug, and not because of Melvin. Given my own struggles with Tank's weight and the number of overweight pugs I see, I thought it made sense to do a post about weight.
Lots of dog owners struggle with this--lab owners seem to have as much trouble as pug owners. I've seen some God Awful fat labs....
