Every year I visit my husband's elementary school and spend a half day with different classes talking about canine education and bite prevention.  Many of the children I see are new immigrants and many come from countries where dogs are to be feared.  It is always so great to see even the fearful ones warm up to my pugs.  This year I took Tank.

Thanks for noticing his increasingly pink belly!!  We are getting there slowly but surely.

I enjoy going to the classes.  And Tank is fabulous with it.  I used to take Pete and later Maude.  Now it's Tank time to be the canine educator.
They get a big kick out of watching Tank do a "down/stay" and then have to wait to eat the treat off the floor until I give permission.  They think that's BIG training.  LOL

At my house that is big training. Maude's got the down, it is stay part when there is food involved that we need to work on.

Tank does look great and glad he gets to be the educator, he would make a very good one.

Well, by process of elimination, he's the educator.  Hazel is too loonie and I think her lack of eyes would freak some kids out.  Pippin is too busy.  Lola is too mean and Theo is too vulnerable.  So it's Tank--who is practically perfect in every way anyway.

Yes, I do still need the crib sheets.  They are going to be a permanent fixture on the dog beds.  I'm just hoping that at some point I can stop boiling them and use a regular washing cycle!!

Not hot enough to kill the yeast and the staph, Lori--or we don't think so.  I've started boiling the dog bed covers (AKA crib sheets) and I will say that Tank's itching has reduced.  The homeo vet thought he might be re-infecting himself from the covers--so now I boil them.

What a terrific program Blanche.  Cheesy  I think respecting animals all starts with educating at a young age.
Thumbs up Tank!

Awesome!

Tank is amazing!......I bet the kids had lots of questions and learned so much!  Grin  They look to be Andrew's age......I think it would be great to see this happening in all schools! Do you know if there is any formal canine education being done?  Or is this a lucky school to have such an expert come and visit?

Tank you are such a good boy!
Those kids look like they are having a great time.
Kudos to Blanche and Tank for their efforts to educate kids early about canines!
And I have to agree with Lori....I've seen some of the pictures of Tanks belly when it was totally black....there is a lot of pink in there now!!  Looking good!

Tank, you're a natural! It's great to educate those kids while they are young.

Blanche - you can also try either a bleach and water solution or a salt and water solution to kill the yeasts and staph. Soak the sheets for a half hour and that should help.
