Today was Rocky's first obedience class.....and all I can say is WOW.
These people are fantastic.  There is no dominance training, no leash popping, no scolding, but do their methods ever work!!  Everything is about praise and reward for good behaviour and listening.

I pretty much figured that Rocky and I were doomed to flunk out, but we actually learned a LOT even in this first class.  The instructors were impressed with his work ethic...they said it was clear that he loved working.

He learned to sit, down, come, off, and learned about minding his and my space when heeling.....and most importantly he learned that he would be rewarded when he didn't over react when there was another dog around and he DID IT!!  There were 9 other dogs there and over the course of the class he learned that there was no point in barking, screaming and trying to lunge at the other dogs.  He sat beside me, paying attention to me and just being a very good boy (most of the time...lol).  Of course it was only a baby step towards him actually being trained (I think that is really a life long exercise), but I am soooo proud of him!!

He is currently passed out on my lap....poor baby is exhausted from all the work he did!!!

These instructors also teach agility and they said that pugs are great at agility......maybe one day.....never hurts to dream...lol

YAY for Rocky and for you.  I love obedience classes.  and I did agility with my pom and it was great for her and for me.  Lots of pugs do it--and it's a great way to burn off energy in the nutter group.

Good for you Rocky, you've made your Mummy very proud of your hard work!

Angela, that's great you've found a class that you're happy with and that fits your Rocky's needs.

Such fantastic news!  Your experience sounds exactly like George's first puppy class way back when.  I'm so happy for you and Rocky...sounds like you are going to have a great time at the rest of the classes  Grin

That is great that Rocky is doing so well. It is great you are both working on his issues.

I hope he doesn't lose all of his nutter though.

Wow, they covered a lot in one class!

Dave and Pugsley must have taken the "class for slow learners"!!  Wink Wink  I think they got through those commands in the whole session!

Hooray for Rocky!!
