Over the last few months as all of you know Sushi was having problems with stroke-like episodes and we knew it was only a matter of time before we had to say goodbye.  In the last few weeks, confusion was setting in more and more and she seemed to have lost her "oomph".  Thursday morning she began losing control of her bowels and bladder and gave up any interest in water, which for her is a sign that something was wrong.  Last night, overnight, she had several "oopses" and this morning after giving her a bath she just laid there while I towelled her off.  This was a definite hint that something was wrong.  Normally this is a time when she will play for an hour getting rubbed and rolled around and keep coming back for more.  Not today.  I think it was her finally saying "enough is enough, it's my time to go."

So with a very heavy heart, I called the vet and made the appointment to take her in so that she could go to The Bridge.

At 4 pm, with Chris and I both holding her, very quickly and peacefully our dear Sushi went to sleep for the last time.

In 5 short years, this pup has made a huge impression on a lot of people, and overcame SO much.  She came to us with one eye, and eventually lost the second, got badly burned in a fire-pit incident, and lost hearing in both ears.  Continual skin infections due to anxiety issues and rounds of meds, and many many other dogs who come through our door never phased her.  She just trodded along and every night, including last night made the trek upstairs without help to bed.  And, she STILL new Kim last week when they came for a visit (after almost 8 months between visits) and gave her several kisses which even I RARELY got.   She was an amazing, crotchety old gal who will be missed very much.

Run free, Sushi.  All is good now.

So sorry to hear about Sushi.  She was loved dearly.  I know she will be enjoying her pain free life on the other side.  We will light a candle for the sweet girl.

cry  Chris, you and Adam have done so much for Sushi over the years and now you've put her needs before her own when she needed it most.  I'm so sorry for the pain you're feeling now but relieved that Sushi is finally at peace.  Hopefully, it will help to know that we are thinking of you and Sushi.

Run free, Sushi.  Round up the others that have gone before you and catch them up on the gossip.

Hugs to you both, Adam and Chris.  She was a fine old gal.

Chris, you and Sushi were one of the first Puggers I met at Running of the Pugs, when my Lola and I started up with Pugalug.
I remember speaking to you about your Sushi and how well she managed and I was totally in awe of your little lady's spirit.
My heart goes out to you and Adam and a candle will be lit here.
