Jake couldn't get up off the floor for dinner tonight and when I picked him up he was limp.  He cannot support himself on either his front or hind legs and even his body falls against me when I lift him.  It's like he is quadriplegic.  I'm wondering if he's had a stroke or suffering some effects of his heart problems.  He is not on any medications, has had no access to anything poisonous, etc.  I have a vet appointment tomorrow morning for Gooey and will take Jake along also.  Please send your positive thoughts.

Thanks, everyone.  Jake's no better this morning.  He did sleep last night, in a dog-bed in Big Bed beside me and was anxious for his breakfast this morning (he had no supper last night).  I hand fed him breakfast slop which he wolfed down, but it's hard for him because I'm not sure he can really feel his tongue and it seems to be off to the right side.  He can't drink water, even if I put the bowl under his chin but he enjoyed some crushed ice cubes I hand fed him.  He starts to bark if I'm out of sight for 10 seconds.   I am concerned that he hasn't had a pee since yesterday mid-day, even when I tried to push his bladder (difficult with one hand when you're holding a limp dog in the other).   DH is away until this evening but we've talked about it this morning and I will abide by what the vet says as far as whether to bring Jake home or not.  My heart is breaking but he can't carry on if there's no hope of improvement.  Thanks for your well wishes.  They help.

My sweet prince is gone, at least his body is.  He will live within me forever.  His heart was strong and his eyes bright until the end, but he had zero reflexes.  The vet said we could either give him prednisone to see if that would restore some mobility or, if an xray of his spine suggested it, do back surgery.  In either case he would have to be catheterized indefinitely to empty his bladder.  That wasn't the essence of Jake's life.  Jake was all about joy and fun and following his mum everywhere with those extra big paws.  I couldn't have him live like that so I let him go.  Gawd it hurts.  I guess the pain is proportionate to the love.

Run free, my boyfriend.  Go and eat as much poop as you want and hump your socks off.  I'll never forget the ride we had together.
