Cooper went in for his dental today and had four teeth removed--one was an old broken tooth and three were little front incisors.  He came through the procedure well and my vet says he still has LOTS of teeth left and is in remarkably good shape for a 10 year old.

I'll be picking him up around 6.  He's going to be ready to eat since he was pretty P.O.ed that he didn't get any breakfast........

Good work Coop old buddy!  You make sure you get an extra big dinner tonight!  I'm sure a bit of surgery won't get in the way of a nice meal!

By the way, for us younger pug parents, at what age or time is the dreaded "Dental" usually done?

Honestly, Amanda, it depends alot on the dog, the diet, the in-home dental care and the conformation of the mouth.  My guys rarely need dentals once they get to me--partly because I feed raw, they get a ton of stuff to chew and I brush their teeth.  I've had Lola for 10 years and she's had two dentnals doen--one was several years ago and was just a cleaning and she had one this past year where she lost some teeth--but she's 13 years old, has most of her teeth and is a pom (a breed notorious for dental issues).
Some dogs will need more frequent or more intensive dental care than others just due to the way their teeth come in.  There are several good products that can be added to food or water (do your research, however) and brushing teeth really helps.
I have my vet take a good look at my dogs teeth when we do our annual vet check and she and I decide on what needs to be done if anything.

He's home and he's just fine.  He was VERY anxious to get a meal.

Now he's kind of hacked off that I won't give any thing to chew on.....

Cooper is currently drafting a letter to his MP as he's sure I've violated some sort of law by denying him (1) breakfast and (2) chewies.

Yeah--I'm shaking in my boots.  I think I'm safe--I bribed him with a trip to the park.  While all the other dogs (except Lola) were doing the Cold Foot Two Step, he was dashing through the snow and barking at the trains that go by the park.....

Sounds perfect, reminds me of a radio skit from "the champ" ...

So I faked him with a trip to the park, and he went for it!
