I was just going through my list of volunteer drivers - the "Pugalug Transport Team" - and saw we have very few drivers in the city of Toronto.  If you would like to be a rescue angel but can't foster, perhaps you would consider driving.

A typical drive would be about an hour one-way and may or may not include highway driving.  Usually you pick the dog(s) up from one driver and drive them to the meeting spot for the next driver.  Sometimes you have to pick up the dog from whoever has it and/or deliver it to the foster home.  In most cases, the dog is crated for travel and either comes with a crate or you need to provide one.  if you don't have one, I can probably arrange for you to borrow one. You get to meet a lot of terrific dogs and some really great people.

What I’m asking is that you donate a couple of hours out of your busy schedule ONCE IN A WHILE (usually Saturday, but sometimes weekdays or evenings) to help us help these dogs. There is no commitment and when I put out an email call for drivers along a certain route, you are free to volunteer or ignore my request.  You will not be paid for your time nor your gas and but the non-monetary rewards are immeasurable. When the previous driver hands over to you a frightened little pup or a dog who has spent all his or her life in a breeding cage and you look into their eyes and see fear and maybe a glimmer of hope, your heart will melt and you will know you have made a difference in this world. Won’t you give yourself an opportunity to have this experience?

If you would like to help, please email me, Hilary, at pugpillow @ gmail.com (no spaces) and we can discuss it.  I will require you to answer a few questions and provide some personal references.  You may be required to sign a volunteer agreement (not sure if it has been finalized yet).

So, think about it. It's a great way to contribute and gives you a wonderful sense of accomplishment and feel-good-ness.  Please help us help those who cannot help themselves.
