He is a real character.... silly, full of energy. He gets into a "mood" and nibbles on toes, socks... He is full of kisses - terrible bad breath as he needs a dental done but lots of kisses. He is also a careful soul, he won't leave the deck unless we do, has just started to wander the gardens when finally on the lawn.

His teeth appear to be really bothering him. I suspect the reason Sanford needs to lose weight is he was eating Loki's as well of late. I have to gate off the kitchen and give Loki a lot of time to eat. Mine wolf theirs down like they have not eaten in months but poor Loki has to be encouraged to eat and takes a long, long time 10 to 15 minutes.. of nibbling very carefully.

He sees our vet on November 30th. Overall a really nice boy and very easy to live with who seems much younger than his years.

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if Sanford was eating some of Loki's food. Sanford is a big boy. Plus, he is always far more interested in Gertie and Parker's food bowls than his own (even though they're all fed the same kibble). He'll wait until they polish off their bowls before starting on his own... just in case they leave some behind. (Like that would ever happen!)

I suspect Sanford needs some dental work, too. It takes him about ten minutes to finish his food, and his breath is pretty unpleasant... so are his ears. He makes up for it in personality, though. He's a really sweet, easy going dog.

Loki and Sanford came in as a bonded pair?  I thought intake was closed right now?

They came in as a pair--not so bonded.  They are part of the reason I closed intake.  I knew they were both going to cost us some dough in dentals.  You will often see dogs come in after intake is closed, because I often have a line up waiting to come in--I close intake when I have full homes (or soon to be) or empty coffers (or soon to be empty).  I may close intake but still have dogs coming in.  It sometimes takes a week or two to get all the paperwork done and the dogs transported.  Sanford and Loki were already in the "pipeline".  And I have two, maybe three dogs waiting to come in.

I agree - Loki is not pining for Sanford.. but like him is easy-going and just a lovely boy and quite energetic for his age.

Nor is Sanford pining for Loki. He’s had no problems adjusting. He’s a very laid back, easy to please dog—no trouble at all.

I am so happy to read about these guys.  They sound wonderful.  I hope that, when they are ready to be adopted, that people remember all the extraordinary things about seniors and are not deterred by their age.  Adopting an oldish rescue is one of the best things ever.
