Rocky has not had any grains for about a 5 days now (since I started him on Wellness Core).
His itchies have virtually disappeared and while his ears are still a bit pinker than normal, they are not the angry red they were!

Is it reasonable for me to notice such a big change in that short a time?  I'm thrilled and I'm sure he must feel a lot better!!

I'm going to have to be careful how much I feed him though.  He really never liked any other kibble I fed him before (perhaps he sensed that he didn't feel well after eating it).  But he LOVES this food and would eat and eat and eat until he burst if I let him!!

He also never liked his "cookies" before...but the grain free ones are a big hit!

I really wish I had gone with my instincts and started this much sooner.

Hahaha!!!  See how easy that was???  Why don't people believe us when we tell them?  Dogs and grains don't mix.  Period. Good for you for taking the plunge and helping him.

If you had told me the differences I would notice in my dogs when I switched, I'd have told you that you were full of fertilizer.

But the differences I see in my dogs is amazing.  I swear, it alleviated most of Belle's dry eyes, and her interdigital cysts.  And Beau's "garbage ears". And they have more energy, better breath, and silky coats.  It has literally taken years off Belle.  I thought originally she might be around 12 or thirteen by now, but she zips around like a (slow) puppy!

And I can always tell if Belle has been into something she shouldn't.

Honestly I was shocked at the almost immediate difference.
His itchies were very annoying for the poor little mite and now he is clearly feeling much better!
We had a dog on all kinds of meds including prednisone for years for mysterious itchies when I was a kid.......a Cairn Terrier.......I now firmly believe that it was grain allergies (she was also prone to recurring "ear infections").  I wish I had known!!!!

Well, I decided to take the advice that a couple of you gave me and switched Rocky to the Ocean Formula Wellness Core rather than the Chicken and the change has been amazing.  While there was a difference with the Chicken, he still wan't 100%.  His ears are no longer red (unless he snatches something from the floor or from one of the kids hands he's not supposed to have   ), his itchies completely gone and he LOVES this food.  I'm going to have to be very careful not to feed him too much....he would eat double the recommended amount if I let him (and for a dog who could care less about food that is something....he's a tall and slim 15.4 lbs).

Thanks for all the advice!

Yay Rocky and Yay you!
I went through this same thing with Darwin as a pup (and a Shih Tzu as a kid) and the change really is astonishing!

I'm so glad that he is doing better.  And I agree, the forum support really is amazing.   :D
