This is Jem.  7 months old and looks like riddled with demodectic mange.  He is an owner surrender.  He is with me--probably for awhile.

Poor little guy.  Blanche is it painful for them?  The skin looks in such bad shape you have to think that it would be at the least very uncomfortable, and likely painful.

Such a sweet face!  I know you will give him the very best of care, Blanche.  I have no doubt that in a few months he will look like a different dog.

Welcome Jem!  You don't know it yet but you are one lucky boy to have landed where you are now.

It's caused by a mite that everyone (even us) has on their bodies, but in immune compromised dogs it becomes mange.  And it can be the devil to get rid of.  He's had month and months of chemical treatments and no improvement.  So I'm going to try the naturopathic route with him for a while.  His immune system is shot.

Yes, Ross, I think he is uncomfortable.  Clearly his feet bother him.  I popped him into a bath of epsom salts and Aveena Oatmeal last night to give him some relief and soak off his crusty parts.

I'm right there with ya. I'm a knitter and when I want to show love, I knit something for them. Are you a knitter?

For now, we're going to work on boosting his immune system.  He's been on bad food for a long time and I want to give his system a break from the chemicals.

Wanna see pictures of their halloween costumes?

Definitely want to see halloween costumes--could you give Kim a run for her money in that department?

I've never mastered knitting.  Don't ask me why.  I can sew, embroider, crochet, quilt, but I can't knit for the life of me.

Ya I wan! to see pictures of costumes! Let's start another thread so as to not hijack this one and draw attention away from this poor little guy. I'll start that thread now or revive an older one.
Stand by... over and out.
