Here's how very pitiful my life has become:

I just bought the mother of all food dehydrators as I had a bit of a meltdown about the cost of dog treats.  I have a houseful of dogs with food issues and the types of treats they can eat are limited.  And expensive.

So I shelled out a smallish fortune (for me--remember, I'm one of the cheapest people in the universe.  Moths move into my wallet and raise large families without fear of being disrupted) on a food dehydrator.

I'm going to be one of those loonies who runs around dehydrating everything in sight now.  And probably starting a collection of dehydrated food bits that look like famous people (ever see the Friends episode where Chandler's room mate does this?)

If I start telling you that I saw the Virgin Mary's face in a piece of dehydrated cow heart--someone get the net.

Blanche,
I'm interested to know how it is going with the dehydrator. I have one I could borrow and wondered about dehydrated liver. I know Benny Bullys are freeze dried. How different is the texture? What worked well?
thanks

This comment has nothing to do with food dehydrators.

Here I am tonight getting all sleepy eyed and limp but I thought I'd check in on the forum one last time before bedtime.....

well.....

Thanks Blanche, I can always depend on you for some welcomed cheer!

Mine crapped out some time ago - it was a cheapo on sale at Walmart.  What kind did you get?

I did a ton of research on types and shapes and construction and what not and the one brand that kept getting praised over and over was the Excalibur so I got an Excalibur 3900(I think it was 3900) with nine shelves.

I dehydrate, therefore I am.

Sounds fancy!  And lots of fun... I can totally see why you are excited by this!  I'm not quite that far along the continuum of puggy geek guru, but I was recently giddy over getting my first steamcleaner.

Hi Everyone,
The above link shows the dehydrator that I recently purchased.
I tried a batch of "Bubba Yammer" Treats and Bubba's eyes bugged out
even further; than, the when I did them in the oven; which I'm hoping means that they even taste better than the ones that came out of the oven Smiley      so much for global shopping Smiley

Let me know what you think of your Blanche (and what you paid & where if you don't mind).  I have been thinking about going this route with our guys since Ada's diagnosis.  I figure that with Allergy Boy and now IBD Girl, a dehydrator might be in order.

I got an Excalibur--with 9 drawers, but you can get them with 4 or 5 I think.
I bought it on-line from a natural food place called Upaya (?) naturals or something like that.  It cost me $230 more or less.  Figured it will pay for itself in a couple of months.......

I tried a concoction of spinach, tomatos andchick pea flour LOL!

wnated to see if I could dehydrate Pugsley's fav.... tomatos with extra stuff for added goodness.......

Well, let's see the intial dried bit was taken and munched on with relish, by Pugsley!
Bubba is a Mikey and eats everything, truly I believe his name should have been "Hey Mikey" Sad
when I offered it to him again, up went the nose and a look of "what are you trying to feed me now" Huh? Sigh! Pugsley would not take it, would not look at it and walked away to stand a few feet away and bark for the "good" stuff

Well, needless to say, Bubba is making out okay with these experiments LOL!
He has enough treats to last all summer about now and will more than likely share with his
good buddies Smiley

Honestly, I haven't had any time.  I keep thinking I'll get started and then stuff comes up and I don't have time.  I'm hoping after Jasper leaves and I have the pup settled that I might have some flex.
