HI Everybody,
My daughter has an old cat named Percy she adopted from the pound. She has a big heart and wanted the oldest lifer in there they had, and that is how Percy came into her life. Percy is a wonderful boy, 18 pounds - not obese just a big cat in fact the largest cat I have ever seen. We suspect he is part Ragdoll by his size and gentle demeanour. Now in addition to his asthma which she treats with puffers 2x a day, the old guy has Diabetes. Luckily it was found early, nevertheless, its a huge learning curve, needles 2x a day, blood testing 2x a day and a new diet and new routine. She is dealing with this as a young single lady just starting her first job and it is overwhelming. Please keep Percy and Sarah in your thoughts and if you have any experience with Diabetes in Cats I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Deb

Deb I don't have any experience with feline diabetes, but I just wanted to comment on what a compassionate heart your Sarah must have to adopt the eldest pound cat they had and offer him a forever home. Then to provide him with the loving care to see him through his asthma and diabetes is quite an admirable endeavour.
Percy's a very lucky boy!

Thinking of Percy and Sarah. I hope they get through this new learning curve quickly. If it is anything like 5 year old children then no worries. Take your time and it will be okay. It seems impossible at first but it becomes normal in no time. My heart goes out to you.

What a wonderful girl you daughter is! My former sister in law has a diabetic cat and he has done really well. They were always dilligent about his insulin injections and diet and he is living a long and healthy life Your post really made me smile....a life saved and enriched by your daughter's generous spirit!!

Well the difference a day makes, now the initial shock is over Sarah will be tackling it head on. I'm going up this weekend for some 'Ma' and possibly a bit of shopping therapy. We will be fussing over Percy and I'll learn how to test his blood and give him his injections too. The injections are the easy part, I have a darling kitty that cannot be pilled even by the Vet so any Meds ( his bi-yearly unexplainable infection ) is given to me in syringes! Thanks again everybody for your support Deb

That is a wonderful thing your daughter Sarah has done - to adopt an older animal and to face the challenge of twice daily insulin shots. Percy has found a wonderful mom and Sarah is the kind of person all pets should be so lucky to have adopt them.
