I know onions and grapes aren't good for hounds, but what about broccoli?  Some fell on the floor tonight and Amir got to it before I did.  What surprised me was how excited he got over it.  I did some googling but I've seen mixed reports of whether it's good or bad for a dog.  Don't suppose anyone happens to know?

Jemma, I haven't heard anything negative about broccoli and dogs.

My Lola has a little al dente flowerette pretty much every day...she loves it and we haven't had any ill effects so far.

in my veggie mix for the guys, I use broccoli and they love it. It is good for them
However ....... Blanche and/or Hilary say it isn't good for some and I'm sure they will let us know. Just can't remember the exact reason but it was due to an illness.

Hypothyroid dogs shouldn't get cruciferous veggies (broccoli, kale, cabbage, etc--It's a long list so google it if you have concerns).  and dogs with joint issues shouldn't get any of the vegetables in the nightshade family (tobacco, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, capsicums and aubergines)

It's the somewhat questionable benefit of having dogs that are allergic to everything and have every health issue known to pugdom.......

But for the average pug, broccoli is fine, in moderation.

Thanks for that info blanche, good to know!  Given the information above I don't think Bugsy should get either food groups so I'll pin the list I just gathered of both of those vegetable families to the fridge as no-no's!

You mean you're going to deny Bugsy his post broccoli cigar?  For shame....
Yep--none of my guys can have the nightshade group and Tank is hypothyroid so no broccoli et al for him.

And how appropriate that tobacco is in the nightshade family.....

Amir is happy to hear that he can have broccoli, heh!  Now if he'd only get over being annoyed at me for not giving him soft food >.<
