Holy cow (no pun intended)........Rocky LOVES these things. I finally broke down and bought him one........mostly because he was dragging them off the shelf in PetSmart today!
There was no price tag on the curly ones.......I have to admit that I was a bit surprised at the $5.00 price on it as it wasn't very big (and he had eaten half of it in half an hour).......but bought it anyway. He nearly ripped the bag out of my hand in the car to get at it.
And yes.....it did stink to high heaven as many here have mentioned. However, it gave me a full half hour of peace and quiet in the car. Amazing stuff!!

Our gal gets Kongs filled with peanut butter. We tried other stuff, but found either the mess, the smell or the runs she had later, were just not worth it.

Angela, the curlie ones are called "Flossies" and are way more expensive and don't last as long as regular ones. Before we figured out all his allergies Darwin was a MAJOR bully stick fanatic. I found the longest lasting, least smelly brand were Moo! Brand bullies available in many lengths and thicknesses at Global/Ryans.
God I miss those things. Nothing kept Darwin quiet and happy like a bully stick.

I have bought the flossies a couple of times, but yeah--expensive and don't last as long. Leila loves them, however, except that she spends more time running around the house whining while trying to find the PERFECT hiding spot for it than she does chewing on it. So bye bye flossies. And I only let my guys chew on anything like that while in my presence as I have a few gulpers. But it's perfect for getting them to all SHUT UP while in my home office and I need to do computer/sewing stuff.

Is the running around whining looking for the perfect hiding spot a pug trait in general? Rocky does that too. It drives me up a wall! Rather than EAT the treat.....he hides it!! Speaking of Leila.....are you getting many applications for the little sweetheart??

We would watch him walk around for over an hour trying to find the perfect spot and if he put it down and I said "Pugs I can still see it" off he would go and grab it and find another spot Lori

Speaking of Leila.....are you getting many applications for the little sweetheart?? Surprisingly, no. So far, I've only had one application for her, but it is a REALLY GOOD ONE! I think her potential future health issues may be scaring people off--which is fine. she may be completely healthy the rest of her life, but she might not and if she isn't--she won't be cheap to care for.

Frankly, Jane, so did I. But I was VERY clear in her adopter requirements that she could require quite a bit of care. She may not, but I wasn't prepared to paint a rosier picture and then have someone be hacked off that she turned out to be high maintenance. I'd rather predict problems and be wrong.......
However, we will see what transpires. The one app I do have is truly a good one, knows pugs, knows her issues and is in a position to handle whatever comes Leila's way medically.

Fingers crossed that Leila's home visit goes well.
I read the adopter requirements and was impressed. I agree 100% with the tell it like it is policy. It's only fair to the adopters and the puggies most of all.

Both Bobo and Shadow go positively ape over them. I beleive they also go by the name "Bullwinkles". Our local pet food supplier sells the large ones for way less than Pet Smare -- he charges $10.00 for three. They tend to last about 3-5 days each -- depending on the mood of the boys. Oh, and yes, whew, they are smelly...but that isn't surprising considering what they are and where they come from. Nerer-the-less, the boys shall continue to get them.

Princess loved the one and only bully stick I ever bought for her. It was one of the curly ones. It got all stringy and she choked on it, so I had to pull it out of her mouth and the stringy part had slid down her throat. Scared the bejeesus out of me and I haven't let her have one since. Mean ol' mama.

I take the bullies away every once in a while and cut off the slimy chewed up end so no one can choke.

And once he chewed them down to a stub short enough that he might try to swallow it that was the end - into the green bin and bring out a new one.
