I get weird looks when I buy every package of chicken backs, chicken necks, turkey necks and packages of organ meats.  I feel I have to explain or they'll think I eat it.

For a change of pace, you can try duck necks too.  I have started getting them in boxes from the King Cole abattoir on Warden just north of Aurora (and just south of he King Capon - chicken abattoir).  You need to phone a couple of days ahead so they can semi-thaw enough to remove from their freezer.  You buy a box at a time.  Sorry I can't remember how much in a box.  I bought 2 boxes and rebagged in lots of 6 necks (Mei-Ling can't tolerate a lot of protein sources) and got quite a few bags out of a box.  One neck per pug per dinner.  Give hand it to them and they will chew and eat the whole thing.  I cut Kimmy's up with garden secaturs because she doesn't have enough teeth but everyone else manages them great.  I also can't remember the cost but know it's a little more than the cost of a chicken or a turkey (on sale) meal, so I use them only once every 2-3 weeks.

Lori - how many meals do you make at one time?  My record is 134 breakfasts which still only lasts me just under 3 weeks (134 divided by 7 pugs).  I don't have the rubber containers for any more nor room in the freezer.  Nor do I think I would have the energy to make any more at one time.

People are amazed at "how much work" we go to, but if it's not really if you consider how long it lasts.  It takes me about an hour to make all these portions, an amount that would last one pug over 4 months.  I have to do it so frequently only because of the number of hungry pugs in the house.

LOL! Hilary, Mom and I cut up enough of the veggies (or should I say the Kitchenaid shreds most) and it fills up this bucket, I will have to post later how much the bucket holds, however the little bags we make ahead of time, hold about 1/4 cup of veggies each and I give the guys 1 bag each for breakfast and again for supper.
When I had the 4 puggies; we would do almost a bucket and a half sometimes 2, in order to have enough for 3-4 months worth.
Whoops, almost forgot to write how many meals: it is usually between 300 to 320 bags. Mom measures the veggies and I seal of the bags and put them in lots of 7 days in huge freezer bags and pop them into the freezer!
BUT, I would rather take a day to do that than have to go back to making up a meal each day, which I did do for Pugsley at one time.
Hilary, for 7 puggies you would really really need to do it in 2 days.
which still isn't so bad when you think you only do it every 2.5 to 3 months or even longer. It will also take up less space in your freezer (not sure what size you have??) because the bags are small and portioned out. I also reuse the veggies bags about 2 or 3 times, we wash after each use and use them until there is no longer enough of a "rim" to seal with.
One puggy I can handle but not enough for 3 or 4 and in your case 7, you lucky ducky  shhhhhhhh, by licencing one at Mom's, of course ahem it has to be a male, standing orders from Mom Smiley

ps I wish I could get some of those Duck necks

Just curious...for those who feed their Puggies raw, do they have any more passing of gas than Puggies on a non-raw diet?

Better,

hardly any,
depending on the veggie mix Wink

but if it is a healthy mix of veggies; no you should have no toots!

having said that, if your puggy is not used to the raw diet; you may notice a few toots until he/she have acclimatized their gastrointestinals Smiley

Hilary,

I think the bucket in the picture I showed with the veggies is anywhere from a 75L - 85L bucket, ther eis nothing on the bucket itself Smiley
