One year ago on the 11th we said good bye to Pete.  Our first pug.  We miss him always.  Below is what I wrote on his Rainbow Bridge section of this site.

If you looked in the dictionary under the word "sweet", you would find a picture of a little pug with bulgy eyes and an undershot jaw. Pug snobs disliked him for everything that was "wrong" about him. We loved him all the more for his "wrongness". He was the poster boy for bad pug breeding, but he was also a shining example of pure pug love.

He overcame 5 horrible years of neglect leading to blindness to become our Pete and a therapy dog extraordinaire. He survived MCT, only to be finally defeated by malignant melanoma. We loved him with all our heart. His Boy will miss him a great deal. We let him go today to find Bob and Scout at the Bridge.
Pete. 1998(?) - January 11, 2008.

Oh Blanche, there goes my make-up again. Your first Pug, he must have been very special to you and will forever be close to your heart.

Including Bob and Scout, I'm sure sweet Pete has made lots of friends at the Rainbow Bridge.

He was a truly lovely little man.  One of the first blind therapy dogs in Toronto.  He got me started on Pug Rescue and I am ever grateful that Dagmar of Peachy Pugs approved me for his home.

Pete sure was a sweetie. He certainly was a favorite at the park. Such a gentle soul.

Awe Blanche what a touching story - and a great way to pay tribute to him by being such a big part of this wonderful organization!

You are all a fine bunch of people ;)

Oh, what a cute boy he was!  That's so cool that he ended up being a therapy dog.

Oh he looks so sweet with his tongue out.  I agree with the others, what better tribute could Pete ever have than the work you do for rescue pugs.  I know how hard this must be for you and our thoughts are with you and your family on this anniversary.

Now I need to go find some kleenex.   cry

Blanche, when I first looked at Pete's picture yesterday, I thought he was resting his chin on a chair or couch arm, but as I look closer today, it's another Pug, isn't it? I love his sleeping face. Where and what did Pete do as a therapy dog?

Yep, he was using one of the other pugs as a pillow.  He was a therapy dog with Therapeutic Paws of Canada.  I'm an evaluator for them now--became one after Pete became a therapy dog.  He visited the palliative unit at Providence Centre.  They loved him visiting and as a small dog, he could be on the bed with some of the patients who were bed-ridden.  He was a small guy at 14 lbs.
He spent his first five years tied up in a backyard in Montreal and was surrendered to a shelter to be euthanized when his owners found out he was blind.  Through some good hearted rescue people in Quebec, he made his way to Ontario and into Peachy Pugs Rescue and the rest is history.

Make-up gone once again. What a Cinderella story... Pete was destined to serve such an important and fulfilling purpose in his sad to saved life. Comforting those in need just as he once was. Blanche, thanks so much for sharing.

I have such admiration for all of you in the rescue side of this organization. You are dedicated, kind-hearted, well-informed, and emotionally so strong. I can't even read alot of these posts without turning to mush! So thanks for all you do.
