We know we're on borrowed time and ever since we came back from the vet a couple of weeks ago, she's been much improved.  But yesterday she took a turn for the worse.  We had a dreadful night because she's coughing like crazy and sounds like a seal at feeding time.  If I didn't know better, I'd think she caught DH's cold.  I would think it was kennel cough except that it came on so suddenly and is an extension of the coughing that she has been doing every time she pees.  I suspect it is fluid on the lungs caused by poor circulation, but this is only my amateur diagnosis.  Her appetite and eyes are still good but I feel very sorry for her coughing so hard and so often.  After breakfast this morning we went back to bed and slept until noon.  When I woke up, I lay there still for a long time as she was finally sleeping without coughing and I didn't want her to start up again.  We'd appreciate if you could send a few positive thoughts her way.

Mei-Ling is my heart dog and first pug.  She's 14 1/2 and has had no awareness of her hind half for a couple of years so she has chronic UTIs and needs help pottying every 3-4 hours.  But she is still "the boss of me" and has lots of spirit.

My boyfriend absolutely fell in love with Mei-Ling when he saw her at the pugalug swim, he thought she was such a tough gal to be walking around even though she couldn't really use her back legs. Our whole family is wishing Mei-Ling the best and hope that she isn't in too much pain.

Thanks, everybody.  She seems to be doing a little better today - less coughing and when she does, less violently.  I started her on Clavamox yesterday (I had some in the house for her chronic UTI) and it may be kicking in.  She had a fairly good night and that probably helped too.  She's a tough old bird, I'll give her that.
