Our very own Tracy is a tireless transport volunteer, not only for Pugalug, but now also for all breeds through Rescuing Dogs in Canada and Cross Border Rescue Transport.   She is always one of the first to volunteer and has quickly made a reputation for herself in transport circles as generous, caring and helpful.  One person CAN make a huge difference.  Thank you, Tracy!

Here's news about one of her recent transports.  Slowly word is getting out to the public about the need for help:

Oh! That's great.  I think the problem is that people just don't know about the need for transporting or that transporting even exists.   Until I joined pugalug I had no clue, but had I known I would have been doing it for years!   Is there any way we could get a Toronto paper to print something like this?

We have to be careful making a mass request for transporters as there are all kinds of whackos out there who could see it as a way to kidnap a dog.  This was discussed on one of the transport forums.  Better to be careful by doing it through referrals and people who obviously love dogs.  I have even contemplated getting an application done for prospective transporters, giving personal references.

TRUE!! Wow, I never even thought about bad guys stealing the dogs.  That would be terrible!   Do you find that most of the transports do get filled?

Mostly.  Sometimes they have to be deferred  a week or two and occasionally this means that a dog scheduled for euthanasia before the transport can be filled is out of luck.  Plus there are so many dogs being killed every day, especially in U.S. shelters, that more transport volunteers and more foster homes would save more lives.

Going forward, ufortunately the situation will get worse.  Economic conditions and foreclosures in the U.S. means there will be more dogs surrendered, and it is harder and harder to get drivers with gas prices soaring.

Thank you Hilary and everyone else.  Yep, I do transorts almost every weekend somes time Sat and Sun.  Even with the price of gas going up I figure $60. a week out of my pocket to help a bunch of beautiful dogs be rescued from possible death is well worth it.  Some are not getting filled due to the price of gas, especially in the states, it breaks ny heart to think of those ones who have to wait another week, IF they make it to another week.  It's my way of helping and it makes me feel great!  Everyweek I fall in love again, I would have a house full if possible!
That was a surpirse on Sat. I had no idea that the London Free Press was going to there.  I haven't seen the picture yet,,  cry

That is a nice article. Thanks for doing it Tracy and all those who transport. Every job, helping these dogs, is an important one!
