 I am heartbroken to have to tell you that we had to put Zoey down on Friday.  She had been sick for the past 2 months or so. It started with a nasty eye problem that wasn't healing very well, then when we kept following up on it, she was diagnosed with diabetes.  She had been in and out of the Vet's often for a two week period until they stabilized her on insulin.  I was giving her a needle every morning and she seemed to be getting better for a bit. Last weekend she was refusing food again, and losing so much weight. She was lethargic, restless, and would hide behind furniture etc. no interest in life in general. I noticed on Friday morning when she rolled over on her back for a belly rub (they are never too sick for a good belly rub) that her legs and belly were yellow. We had an appointment at Colleen & Paul's - Muddy Paws for a nail clipping for all 4 dogs that day.  She wanted to go for a truck ride, so we took her along. We were still optimistic at that point, thinking perhaps she needed her meds adjusted. When we took here to the Vet's office later that day, he knew we had run out of miracles for her. The diabetes had caused liver failure.  She passed away peacefullyl in our arms, but it was the most difficult thing I ever had to do. Only because of Beasely's age- we thought he might be the first one to leave us. We never expected to lose Zoey. It would have been her 9th birthday today. I had to wait a few days to get to the point where I could write this note.  Now I am sitting at my office desk with tear running down my face. You are never ready to let go - but it was the kindest thing we could do for her at that point.  I will post something in the Rainbow Bridge soon. It is because of her not being well that I missed the last 2 pugalugs.  Looking forward to seeing you all soon.  Happy Holidays.  regards, Hilary & family & Beasely, Cinderella, and Boston

I'm so sorry for your loss of Zoey.  I, and many others on this forum, know what you're going through.

It's been two and a half weeks since I lost my Tofu to kidney failure, and as hard it is to see them in pain, you always wish for that last little bit of hope.  To this day, I still hope that I'd wake up from a bad dream and that she'd jump up to say good morning.

May you feel better knowing that Zoey is now pain free and playing with other dogs at the rainbow bridge.  Hugs to you and your family.

((((Oh Hilary! )))))   I'm so sorry.  I will light a candle for Zoey who will be playing free of all her ailments at the Bridge now.  For you and your family, I wish peace as you grieve and that happy memories will outweigh the sadness very soon.

I'm very sorry for your loss of Zoey.  It's so hard to say goodbye to any member of the family.  You gave her love to the very end, and that is the best gift we can give to these creatures that bring so much joy to our lives.  I'm sure she carried that with her as she made her way to the Rainbow Bridge.

I am so sorry for your loss.  It sounds like you did everything you could until the end.  It is a very tough decision.  Our thoughts are with you.

Dear Hilary,

I was so sad to read this about Zoey, and can't imagine the pain you are all going through.  It's no secret how much your entire family love their pugs.  You are very brave and kind.  We will all remember Zoey.

Oh Hilary.  I'm so very sorry.  It is without a doubt the worst decision in the world to have to make about your beloved dog, but it is also such a gift to let them go when no more can be done.  Tell her to look for Bob and Scout, they will show her the way.
Call if you need to.
